Council Coordination Committee

The Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Reauthorization Act (P.L. 109-479) contained a new paragraph, section 302 (l), which establishes the Council Coordination Committee (CCC). The CCC consists “of the chairs, vice chairs, and executive directors of each of the 8 Councils described in subsection (a)(1) [of this Act], or other Council members or staff, in order to discuss issues of relevance to all Councils, including issues related to the implementation of this Act.”

Two meetings or conferences are generally scheduled each year, one hosted by NOAA Fisheries Service in December or January, and the second later in the year in May or June hosted by one of the Councils.

NOAA Fisheries Service is committed to the timely implementation of all the new provisions of the MSRA. Regular face to face meetings or conferences between NOAA Fisheries Service and the leadership of the eight Regional Fishery Management Councils are critical to ensure Administrative and MSRA priorities are met.
